Wyatt J. Booke, 14, of Williston, North Dakota, died Monday, July 31, 2006 at Trinity Medical Center in Minot.  Funeral services will be at Faith United Methodist Church in Williston at 10:00 am on Friday August 4, 2006.  Rev. Rod Tkach will officiate and interment will follow at Riverview Cemetery.

Wyatt Jennings Booke was born February 1, 1992 to Kelly and Sandy (Johnson) Booke in Williston, North Dakota.  He attended school at Garden Valley, where he was one of two students in his grade. He played basketball for the District 8 Hawks and had achieved his purple belt in Tae Kwon Do.  He also took golf lessons, but mostly he enjoyed music and being a horseman.  He made repairs to his dad’s boat and was learning to water ski.

He was in the team-penning club, and he broke horses for people.  Wyatt broke his own pony when he was just five years old.  He had a special gift with animals.

He was employed at Dakota Sandblasting and Painting, Inc., and helped his dad farm.  He loved combining and was excited to be growing up and making money.

Wyatt was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church, and was very active there.  He was known for always helping any way that he could.  His beaming smile was contagious.

The world changed when he arrived and changed again when he left.  He will be missed.

Wyatt is survived by his parents, Kelly and Sandy Booke of Williston, ND; the sister that he adopted as his own, Kristin Weyrauch of Williston, ND; maternal grandmother, Joan Johnson; paternal grandfather Charles Booke; aunts Geri (Gary) Hudson of Williston, ND, Renee (Berk) Bowman of Rhame, ND, Wendy Bisbee of New England, ND, and Julie Hubert (Jim) of Norfolk, VA; uncles Kelvin (Elaine) Johnson of Billings, MT, Russell Johnson of Eugene, OR, Keith Johnson of New England, ND, and Richard (Cindy) Booke of Whapeton, ND; and numerous cousins.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Roger Johnson, and paternal grandmother Margaret Booke.

Friends may call at Fulkerson Funeral Home in Williston on Thursday August 3, from 9 am to 6 pm, and at the church one hour prior to services.

Thank you to those who offered support

Throughout our ordeal, so many wonderful people asked what they could do for me.  At the time, I could not think of anything that anyone could possibly do to make things better.

Our time at the hospital seemed like a never-ending nightmare.  The decisions were so difficult to make.  The one that I will always regret is refusing to let them take Wyatt’s organs to save other lives.  In a completely irrational state of grief, I just couldn’t let them put my son through any more.

And so the one thing that Wyatt’s friends and family can do for me would be to make sure that the donor box is checked next time you renew your driver’s license.  I am told that it is also a very good idea to let your family know your wishes even though you have taken care of the driver’s license.

Many of you have probably already taken care of this, but if there is anyone out there who has not, I ask you to consider it in memory of Wyatt.

I’ll spend the rest of my life promoting organ donation, and doing what I can to make up for my selfishness at a time when I had the opportunity to help.  If my efforts result in only one more donor, I’ll consider it worthwhile.

Thank you so much to all of you who offered your help when I needed support so badly.
